SOP Participating in the 6th Eastern Mediterranean Pharmaceutical Symposium (EMPS) in Kuwait

On July 16th, 2017 Dr. Nisreen Mourad presented the Lebanese International University (LIU) - School of Pharmacy (SOP) in the International Pharmaceutical Students' Federation (IPSF) 6th Eastern Mediterranean Pharmaceutical Symposium (EMPS) that was held in Kuwait. The EMPS is the key regional event of the IPSF Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (IPSF EMRO) done on an annual basis for pharmacy students and recent graduates especially in the Eastern Mediterranean Region to gather, meet, and gain knowledge. The EMPS includes workshops, events such as (patient counseling event, clinical skills event, compounding event), IPSF EMRO Regional Assembly and scientific lectures.

Dr. Mourad who was the only speaker from Lebanon in the Scientific Day delivered a lecture entitled, "How can we avoid medication errors?”. Dr. Mourad first started with a general overview about medications errors, then explained the medication-use process, after which she fully discussed the causes and possible solutions to avoid medication errors, and finally wrapped up her presentation with some cases that the audience engaged in solving them.

In addition, two of LIU graduates Ms. Jinane Ghattas and Ms. Maya Abi Rafeh attended the Symposium. Ms. Ghattas being the IPSF EMRO Regional Projects Officer participated in the Regional Assembly where she presented her Regional Projects' Officer report which was approved. Additionally, she gave a workshop on patients' counseling skills that preceded a patients' counseling competition. While Ms. Abi Rafeh presented a lecture about Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) pathophysiology and treatment approaches.
